Ferrite materials for signal processing can be structured in two categories, those that allow fast transferring thus showing a high working frequency, and those robust to disturbs offering high impedance to noise and allowing a good signal to move.

For filter and sensor applications, it requires medium permeability, low loss, and high stability over periods of time. For wideband signal transformers which are frequently used in IGBT’s Gate driver and digital networks such as ISDN and DSL, high permeability is needed.

In many electronic devices, it is necessary to delay pulses for a short, well-defined time. The delay time is determined by the saturation flux in the ferrite core and the applied voltage. Requirements for the material are high pulse permeability and high saturation flux density.

There is also a subset of core shapes that are preferred for these applications.

Usually, they are RM, P, PT, EP/LP, Planar ER, toroids, and balun.
