The ClearLite® 1310/1550 nm 0.11 NA PYROCOAT® optical fibre is a specialty single-mode fibre optimised for operation at the 1310 nm and 1550 nm telecom windows. It combines a nominal numerical aperture of 0.11 with a robust PYROCOAT® polyimide coating for dependable performance in harsh and high-temperature environments. The fibre is designed for long-term stability in demanding applications such as distributed temperature or strain sensing, industrial and energy systems, oil and gas instrumentation, and advanced medical sensing devices. Its standard 125 µm cladding diameter supports compatibility with conventional splicing and connector systems. The proprietary fibre design also offers enhanced UV photosensitivity for fibre Bragg grating fabrication. With low attenuation, strong proof-test performance, and compact bend capability, it provides reliable optical integrity where standard fibres may not perform adequately.

Range features
A high level overview of what this range offers
- Thin PYROCOAT® polyimide coating: Provides excellent thermal stability up to 300 °C and resists chemicals and abrasion while maintaining a compact 155 µm outer diameter.
- Dual-wavelength single-mode design: Supports efficient operation at both 1310 nm and 1550 nm for telecom and sensing applications.
- Enhanced photosensitive core: Enables fibre Bragg grating inscription without hydrogen pre-loading, simplifying sensor fabrication.
- Low optical attenuation: Delivers ≤ 0.7 dB/km at 1310 nm and ≤ 0.6 dB/km at 1550 nm for strong signal integrity over long distances.
- High mechanical strength: Proof-tested to ≥ 200 kpsi (1.38 GPa) for durability during installation and long-term use.
- Tight bend tolerance: Supports bend radii as small as 10 mm short-term and 17 mm long-term for compact deployment.
- Hermetic carbon layer protection: Helps resist moisture and hydrogen ingress to preserve optical performance and grating stability in demanding conditions.

FAQs
for ClearLite® 1310/1550 nm 0.11 NA PYROCOAT® Optical Fibre
The fibre uses a PYROCOAT® polyimide coating that remains stable at temperatures up to about 300 °C. Combined with a hermetic carbon layer, it can operate reliably in environments that are far too hot for standard telecom fibres.
Yes, this is a single-mode optical fibre. The 0.11 numerical aperture indicates the fibre’s light acceptance characteristics and supports single-mode guidance at 1310 nm and 1550 nm for low-loss, stable signal transmission.
Yes. The enhanced photosensitive core design supports fibre Bragg grating inscription using UV exposure without the need for hydrogen pre-loading, making sensor fabrication more convenient.
The fibre offers low attenuation of ≤ 0.7 dB/km at 1310 nm and ≤ 0.6 dB/km at 1550 nm, making it suitable for long-distance sensing and communication in harsh environments.
Compared with standard acrylate coatings, PYROCOAT® polyimide withstands much higher continuous temperatures and offers stronger chemical and abrasion resistance. This makes it well suited to oil and gas, industrial, aerospace, and other harsh-environment applications.
For short-term handling or installation, the fibre can be bent to about 10 mm radius. For long-term installation, a bend radius of 17 mm or greater is recommended to minimise added loss and mechanical stress.
Yes. The fibre can be supplied with custom buffer coatings or jacketing options to suit specific applications. Available options may include buffer material and colour, buffer size, cut-off wavelength tuning, metalized fibre ends, higher proof test levels, or connectorized termination.
Yes. With its standard 125 µm cladding diameter and conventional single-mode mode field dimensions, it is compatible with standard fusion splicing equipment and connector ferrules. Polyimide coating handling may require appropriate stripping techniques before termination.
