PM400 – 400W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The PM400 series provides regulated AC-DC power for medical equipment, industrial systems, data networking and telecommunications applications. Its open-frame construction combines a printed circuit board with a U-bracket for mechanical support and heat dissipation. The standard U-bracket version supplies 300 W under convection cooling or 400 W when supported by 7 CFM forced airflow. An enclosed version with an integrated cover and fan assembly provides 400 W without changing the overall package dimensions. Seven output models cover nominal voltages from 12 V to 48 V, each with remote sensing and a ±2% output tolerance. BF class insulation, 2 MOPP input-to-output separation and controlled leakage current support integration into medical electrical equipment. Standby power, fan power and multiple logic signals are provided for system-level monitoring and control.

PM400 - 400W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The PM400 series is designed for medical and other professional electronic systems that require a compact, regulated AC-DC power platform. It is offered in open-frame U-bracket and enclosed fan-cooled formats, giving designers flexibility in how cooling is implemented within the end equipment.

With seven nominal output options from 12 V to 48 V, the series supports a broad range of system power architectures. Medical-focused features such as BF class insulation, 2 MOPP isolation, low leakage current and dedicated control/status signals make the PM400 well suited to demanding equipment designs.

FAQs

for PM400 – 400W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The U-bracket version is rated for up to 300 W under convection cooling. Output power can reach 400 W when the system provides 7 CFM forced airflow and the stated temperature-derating requirements are observed.

The B suffix identifies the U-bracket version, which relies on the host equipment for any required forced airflow. Replacing the suffix with C identifies the enclosed version fitted with a cover and fan assembly for 400 W operation.

The series includes 12 V, 15 V, 18 V, 24 V, 28 V, 36 V and 48 V models. Maximum output current depends on the selected voltage and cooling method.

Yes. All variants can operate at no load without damage, although the output voltage may fluctuate by more than 5% because the control circuit enters burst mode to reduce energy consumption.

Full rated power is available up to an ambient temperature of +50°C under the applicable cooling conditions. The available power must then be reduced linearly to 50% at +70°C.

The PM400 uses BF class insulation and provides 4000 VAC input-to-output withstand voltage, corresponding to 2 MOPP. Input-to-ground isolation is rated at 1500 VAC and 1 MOPP.

The power supply includes overvoltage, short-circuit and overtemperature protection. Overvoltage and short-circuit conditions recover automatically, while an overtemperature shutdown requires the AC input to be recycled.

The remote-sense input can compensate for up to 0.5 V of voltage drop between the power supply and the load. Sense wiring should be routed and connected in accordance with the final equipment design requirements.

The eight-pin control connector includes inhibit, DC OK, power-fail detection and PS OFF signals. It also carries remote-sense connections, a 5 V standby output and a common return.

No. The 400 W rating depends on the specified cooling arrangement and applies without derating only up to +50°C. Available output power decreases linearly above this temperature and reaches 50% at +70°C.
