Alvium G5 series 5GigE vision camera modules

The Alvium G5 series brings higher bandwidth and flexible integration to industrial machine vision applications. Using a 5GigE interface, these cameras provide significantly more throughput than standard GigE Vision models, enabling faster frame rates or higher resolutions without changing the underlying Ethernet-based architecture. They remain backward-compatible with 2.5 GigE and 1 GigE networks, making upgrades from existing GigE or USB3 Vision systems straightforward. Their compact 60 × 29 × 29 mm housing supports space-constrained installations and PoE simplifies cabling by combining power and data on one connection.

The series offers a broad range of sensor options, including Sony IMX models with global shutter, rolling shutter, UV, SWIR, and polarization variants. Resolutions span from 0.5 MP to 24.6 MP, allowing users to optimise for either speed, detail, or specialised spectral imaging. Industrial I/O, multi-ROI, sequencer functions, and liquid lens support add application flexibility. Built with industrial-grade components, Alvium G5 cameras are designed for reliable operation from -20 °C to +60 °C. The result is a compact, high-performance camera family suited for inspection, robotics, embedded vision, and other demanding imaging tasks.

FAQs

for Alvium G5 series 5GigE vision camera modules

The 5GigE interface provides significantly more bandwidth than a standard 1GigE connection, allowing the camera to handle higher frame rates or higher sensor resolutions without becoming network-limited. This is especially useful in high-speed inspection and data-intensive imaging tasks, while still preserving the familiar Ethernet-based workflow.

Yes. The Alvium G5 series is designed as an easy upgrade path for existing systems. The cameras are backward-compatible with 2.5G and 1G Ethernet networks, support standard GigE Vision and GenICam, and offer a compact form factor with common lens mount options. In many cases, they can be integrated without major changes to the overall system design.

The series spans a broad range from 0.5 MP to 24.6 MP and includes many Sony IMX sensor options as well as selected specialized sensors. Users can choose between global shutter and rolling shutter models, along with specialized UV, SWIR, and polarization variants to match speed, detail, and spectral imaging requirements.

Alvium G5 cameras use an ultra-compact 60 × 29 × 29 mm housing, making them suitable for space-constrained industrial and embedded vision systems. They support C-Mount, CS-Mount, and M12 lens options, giving users flexibility across both standard machine vision optics and compact board-level lenses.

Yes. Power over Ethernet (PoE) support allows power and data to be delivered over a single Ethernet cable. This reduces wiring complexity, simplifies installation, and is especially useful in distributed camera systems, robotics, and applications where minimizing cabling is important.

The Alvium G5 platform includes features such as multi-ROI, sequencer control, triggered acquisition, industrial I/O, and on-camera image controls. These capabilities help optimize throughput, support synchronization with external equipment, and simplify more advanced inspection workflows directly at the camera level.

The cameras do not include built-in autofocus optics, but they support Optotune liquid lens integration for rapid electronic focus adjustment. With the appropriate connection cable, the camera can drive a liquid lens directly, enabling fast focus changes for varying object distances without mechanical movement.

The series is supported by the Vimba X SDK and is compatible with GigE Vision and GenICam standards. This makes integration straightforward across Windows, Linux, macOS, and many third-party machine vision environments that support standard Ethernet vision cameras.
