NCF425 Series – Open Frame 425 W medical AC/DC power supply

The NCF425 Series is designed for engineers integrating power conversion into critical medical equipment where patient leakage current and isolation require close control. Three standard models provide nominal outputs of 12 V, 24 V or 48 V from a universal 85 to 264 VAC input. The 24 V and 48 V versions deliver up to 425 W with at least 300 LFM airflow, while convection or conduction-cooled operation is available at reduced power. Input-to-output isolation is rated at 4000 VAC with two means of patient protection, complemented by 1500 VAC input-to-ground and output-to-ground isolation. The series also withstands a 5 kV defibrillator pulse and provides patient leakage performance suitable for use in Type CF applications. Integrated remote sense, power-good, inhibit and 5 V standby connections support system-level monitoring and control. Typical integration contexts include atherectomy equipment, electrosurgical systems and other medical devices requiring a compact, low-leakage power stage.

FAQs

for NCF425 Series – Open Frame 425 W medical AC/DC power supply

No. It is a component power supply and cannot itself be declared an applied part or assigned a Type CF classification. It has been evaluated against the relevant isolation, creepage, clearance and patient-leakage requirements for use within equipment intended for Type CF applications, but final compliance remains a system-level responsibility.

The standard models provide 12 V, 24 V or 48 V single outputs. The corresponding model identifiers are NCF425S12K, NCF425S24K and NCF425S48K.

No. The 425 W rating applies to the 24 V and 48 V models with at least 300 LFM airflow. Under convection or conduction cooling, these models are rated at 275 W, while the 12 V model is rated at 240 W.

Input-to-output patient leakage is below 7 µA under normal conditions and below 20 µA under a single-fault condition at 264 VAC and 60 Hz. Output-to-earth patient leakage is below 45 µA under normal conditions.

Input-to-output isolation is rated at 4000 VAC and provides 2 MOPP. Input-to-ground and output-to-ground isolation are each rated at 1500 VAC with 1 MOPP.

The series is designed to withstand a 5 kV defibrillator pulse. Equipment designers must still assess the complete medical system, including wiring, connectors, insulation spacing and applied-part circuitry.

A 14-pin signal connector provides remote sense, power-good, inhibit, return and 5 V standby connections. A logic-high or open inhibit input enables the main output, while logic-low disables it.

An external ferrite core may be required on the output cabling to achieve Class B radiated emissions. Without that external core, the documented configuration meets Class A radiated emissions, so EMC verification should be completed in the final equipment enclosure.

The available output remains at its rated level up to 50°C ambient temperature and then derates linearly to 50% at 70°C. Airflow direction, enclosure restrictions and nearby heat sources should be included in the equipment-level thermal assessment.
