OCT Single Mode 1310 nm PYROCOAT® Optical Fibre

The BF05717-06 OCT Single-Mode 1310 nm PYROCOAT® Optical Fibre is designed for demanding imaging and sensing applications. Operating at 1310 nm, it supports OCT systems that require deep penetration and clear optical resolution. Its single-mode core and precision 125 µm cladding help maintain consistent signal quality and low modal dispersion for accurate imaging and sensing. The thin yet durable PYROCOAT® polyimide coating enables continuous operation from -65 °C to +300 °C. This coating also provides strong resistance to chemicals, abrasion, and thermal stress. The fibre is well suited to medical OCT devices, industrial inspection systems, and fibre-optic sensor deployments in harsh environments. Its slim 155 µm overall diameter supports integration into compact assemblies and tight routing paths. Overall, it combines optical fidelity, mechanical durability, and high-temperature performance in a compact fibre solution.

OCT Single Mode 1310 nm PYROCOAT® Optical Fibre

The BF05717-06 is a specialised 1310 nm single-mode OCT optical fibre engineered for applications where optical precision and environmental durability are equally critical. Its PYROCOAT® polyimide coating supports reliable use in high-temperature, chemically challenging, and mechanically demanding settings, while the standard 125 µm cladding simplifies integration with established connectorisation and splicing workflows.

Typical applications include medical OCT imaging probes, industrial inspection systems, and fibre-optic sensing installations that must maintain stable performance through thermal cycling, sterilisation, or prolonged exposure to harsh operating conditions.

FAQs

for OCT Single Mode 1310 nm PYROCOAT® Optical Fibre

PYROCOAT® is a proprietary polyimide coating designed to withstand much higher temperatures and harsher operating conditions than typical acrylic coatings. It supports continuous use up to 300 °C and offers strong resistance to chemicals and abrasion. This helps the fibre maintain performance and service life in environments where standard coated fibres may degrade or fail.

Yes. This fibre is specifically optimised for Optical Coherence Tomography and is well suited to medical OCT systems. Its 1310 nm single-mode design supports effective tissue penetration and low-scatter imaging performance, while the thin polyimide coating can tolerate sterilisation processes such as autoclave cycles. Final device designers should still confirm biocompatibility and regulatory compliance for the finished medical product.

The fibre is designed around a 1310 nm operating window, but it can also guide light at other wavelengths within the single-mode regime. With a cutoff wavelength of ≤ 1260 nm, it can support single-mode operation at 1550 nm as well. However, because the published specification is focused on 1310 nm, performance at other wavelengths should be validated in the intended application.

For short-term handling and installation, the minimum bend radius is 10 mm. For long-term deployment and best reliability, a bend radius of at least 17 mm is recommended. Following these limits helps preserve both optical performance and mechanical integrity over time.

Polyimide-coated fibres require different handling from standard acrylate-coated fibres. Because PYROCOAT® is thin and hard, it is typically removed using a thermal stripper or controlled heat process rather than ordinary mechanical stripping alone. After stripping, the fibre can be terminated or spliced using standard methods compatible with 125 µm cladding. Proper tools and procedures are recommended to avoid damaging the glass.

Yes. The PYROCOAT® polyimide coating provides strong resistance to moisture, solvents, and many chemicals, making the fibre suitable for humid, industrial, and chemically exposed environments. While the coating improves environmental durability, the fibre itself is still glass, so additional jacketing or protection may be appropriate where there are mechanical hazards or extreme chemical exposure.
