OFS optical fibres for medical applications are categorised into two areas: Power Delivery and Imaging/Sensing.
For high power delivery, the HCXtreme® range of fibres combat the issues around fiber breakage due to tight bending. In tests down to 5 mm diameters, the fibers continued to deliver high optical power without failure. Typical applications and procedure include kidney stone ablation, laser hair removal, varicose vein treatment, lithotripsy, and cosmetic treatment.
In applications such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), laser lipolysis and cancer detection, both single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) graded-index (GI) PYROCOAT® coated fibres play an important role.
