NCF250 Series – Open Frame 250 W medical AC/DC power supply

The NCF250 Series is a single-output open-frame AC/DC power supply for medical equipment that requires low leakage current and patient-protection isolation. It is suited to applications such as defibrillators, patient monitors and other diagnostic or therapy systems where defibrillator pulse withstand is relevant. The series is available with 12 V, 15 V, 24 V and 48 V nominal main outputs, plus a 5 V/1 A standby rail across the range. Depending on model and cooling method, output power reaches up to 250 W with at least 400 LFM airflow or up to 175 W under natural convection. The 85 to 264 VAC universal input range supports global equipment designs. Input-to-output isolation is rated at 4,000 VAC for 2 MOPP, with typical patient leakage below 9 µA under normal conditions at 264 VAC and 60 Hz. The platform also includes DC OK and inhibit functions, comprehensive protection features and medical EMC performance aligned with IEC 60601-1-2. As a component power supply, it has been evaluated for requirements relevant to CF applications, while final applied-part classification remains part of the end-equipment assessment.

NCF250 Series - Open Frame 250 W medical AC/DC power supply

The NCF250 Series is designed for medical systems that need low leakage current, reinforced patient protection and compact open-frame integration. It combines 2 MOPP input-to-output isolation, 5 kV defibrillator pulse withstand and a universal 85 to 264 VAC input in a small L-chassis format.

Available main-output options include 12 V, 15 V, 24 V and 48 V, and every model includes a 5 V/1 A standby output for system housekeeping power. Depending on output variant and cooling method, the series delivers up to 250 W with at least 400 LFM airflow or up to 175 W under natural convection.

This makes the NCF250 a strong fit for monitor, defibrillator, diagnostic and therapy equipment where compliance margins, thermal flexibility and compact mechanical integration are all important.

FAQs

for NCF250 Series – Open Frame 250 W medical AC/DC power supply

No. The maximum convection-cooled rating is 175 W for the 24 V and 48 V models at 50°C and the applicable input voltage. Reaching 250 W requires a 24 V or 48 V model, at least 400 LFM airflow and operation within the stated thermal and input-voltage limits.

No. The 12 V and 15 V models are rated at up to 230 W with airflow. The 24 V and 48 V versions provide up to 250 W with airflow, while all models remain subject to derating versus temperature and input voltage.

No. The NCF250 is a component power supply, not an applied part. It has been evaluated for requirements relevant to CF applications, including patient leakage, dielectric strength, creepage, clearance and 2 MOPP input-to-output isolation, but the final medical device still requires its own safety assessment.

Typical input-to-output patient leakage is below 9 µA under normal condition and below 20 µA under single-fault condition at 264 VAC, 60 Hz. These values are below the associated IEC 60601-1 limits of 10 µA and 50 µA respectively.

The supply provides 4,000 VAC input-to-output isolation rated as 2 MOPP. Input-to-ground and output-to-ground isolation are each 1,500 VAC and provide 1 MOPP.

The NCF250 includes an inhibit input, a DC OK status output and a 5 V/1 A standby output. The standby rail is available whenever AC input is present and is not switched by the inhibit function.

Rated power begins to derate above 50°C and reaches 50% of the applicable 50°C rating at 70°C. Available output power also depends on the selected voltage, input level and whether the supply is cooled by natural convection or by at least 400 LFM airflow.

No. No minimum load is required. The published output data also include a 1,000 µF capacitive-load rating, ±1% initial set-point tolerance and an optional ±5% output adjustment range.

The supply measures 61 × 127 × 40.6 mm and weighs 290 g. It uses a 3-position AC input connector, a 6-position DC output connector, a separate 4-position signal connector and a quick-disconnect ground terminal.

The NCF250 is specified for Class B conducted and radiated emissions and for IEC 60601-1-2 fourth-edition immunity performance. A ferrite core may be required for radiated emissions, and the completed medical device should be verified in its final enclosure, wiring and load configuration.
