LabSpion Goniophotometer

The LabSpion goniophotometer is the ideal solution for capturing the complete 3D light distribution, all photometric data, and the spectrum of all types of light sources. The installation and alignment of the light sources is quick and precise, thanks to the built-in laser sensor that automatically determines the distance between the goniometer and the spectrometer. The goniophotometer can handle light sources weighing up to 25 kg (optional up to 45 kg) and with a diameter of up to 2 meters.

High Measurement Speed and Accuracy

Depending on the measurement resolution, a full measurement with the goniophotometer takes between 20 seconds and 5 minutes per C-plane. The highest resolution is a 0.1° step size, providing a complete 3D dataset for each lamp or fixture. Additionally, the system generates accurate LDT and IES files that can be used for further simulations. The measurement results are automatically saved in "Fixture" files and can be exported into various common formats (PDF, XLS, IES, LDT, CSV). With the Light Inspector software, users can also define their own PDF report templates.

Expansion with Optional Measurement Modules

For extended analysis capabilities, additional components such as the LabFlicker and LabTemp are available. These allow the capture of flicker effects and temperature profiles, which are important in many lighting projects. All additional measurement data is consolidated into a single file, greatly simplifying the measurement process from data collection to evaluation.

LabSpion UV-VIS and UV-VIS-NIR Goniophotometer

In addition to the standard VIS goniophotometers, Viso Systems also offers versions for specific applications. The LabSpion UV-VIS and UV-VIS_NIR systems are capable of capturing UV and NIR light sources as well as conventional lighting fixtures. These systems are particularly suitable for users who require comprehensive spectral analyses, such as in research and development.

Integration into EPREL

All measurement data recorded with the LabSpion goniophotometer and LabFlicker meet the requirements for upload into the EPREL database (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling). The Light Inspector software allows for automatic generation of ZIP files that fully comply with EPREL’s specifications. Thanks to these features, the LabSpion is a flexible, expandable, and efficient solution for precise light measurements, covering a wide range of modern lighting technologies.

What’s in this range?

All the variants in the range and a comparison of what they offer

ModelleAccessories DescriptionSystem Compatible with

LabFlicker

The LabFlicker connects directly to the Viso Light Inspector software as a stand-alone device. The LabFlicker calculates SVM, PstLM, flicker percentage, flicker index, flicker frequency and JA8 flicker data in real-time. When used with other Viso Sytems it amalgamates all photometer in one report

LabSpion, Basespion and Lightspion

LabTemp

The LabTemp hub allows you to log the temperature via standard temperature probes, allowing up to 3 probes. The LabTemp can be mounted onto all steel surfaces via strong permanent magnets.

LabSpion, Basespion and Lightspion

LabRail

The LabRail allows easy repositioning of the sensor via motorised rail. The sensor travels securely on a rail up to 16 m long on the optical axis, suspended from the ceiling. Allows users to keep the alignment of the light source on moving the sensor. Owners of LabSpion systems are now able to replace the standard tripod with the rail system upgrade kit.

LabSpion

Labspion Extender

Larger C-Plane tower which allows up to 2 metre light source to be measured.

LabSpion

LabSensor UV-VIS

The LabSensor UV-VIS upgrades the Labspion and Basespion to measure 190nm to 850nm which includes UV-A, UV-B and most the UV-C range.

FAQs

for LabSpion Goniophotometer

Depending on the measurement resolution, a full scan takes between 20 seconds and 5 minutes per C-plane. The highest resolution is 0.1° step size.

Alignment is done using a laser mirror attached to the lamp holder. The reflected laser beam must return to the sensor. Additionally, a leveling laser is included to assist with height and axis alignment

The sensor must be aligned with the optical axis of the goniophotometer, which is typically 1.55 m (1.80 m with the 2-m tower).

The system can measure all types of light sources, including LEDs, halogen lamps, HID lamps, and fluorescent lamps.

The distance must be at least 8 times the largest dimension of the light source. For example, a 1-meter luminaire requires a measurement distance of at least 8 meters.

The LabSpion can measure luminaires up to 150 cm in length (200 cm with an extension) and weighing up to 25 kg (reinforced: 45 kg).

The light source must be placed at the center of rotation of the goniophotometer. A magnetic holder helps ensure precise positioning.

The Viso CALI-T50 calibration light source can be used to verify and adjust the calibration. Recalibration should be performed annually or at least every two years.

Measurement results can be exported in IES, LDT, CSV, Excel, PDF, and PNG formats. The PDF and Excel reports can be customized for specific customer needs.

Yes, the system can be combined with temperature sensors such as the LabTemp to monitor thermal effects.
