FEMTO Messtechnik GmbH is a specialist manufacturer of high-performance, low-noise electronic amplifiers and photoreceivers. Founded in 1995, FEMTO focuses on developing sophisticated tools for signal recovery, helping researchers and engineers detect and measure extremely small electrical and optical signals with exceptional sensitivity.
With a portfolio covering current and transimpedance amplifiers, voltage amplifiers, photoreceivers, balanced photoreceivers, lock-in amplifiers and high-speed GHz amplifiers, FEMTO provides solutions for some of the most demanding measurement applications in science and industry.
FEMTO specialises in the part of a measurement system where signal quality matters most: recovering weak signals while keeping noise to an absolute minimum. Its current and transimpedance amplifiers are designed to measure extremely small currents, with products offering gains up to 10¹³ V/A and bandwidths ranging from just a few hertz to hundreds of megahertz. This makes them suitable for applications including spectroscopy, photodetection, scanning tunnelling microscopy, ionisation detection and other ultra-sensitive measurements.

FEMTO also develops highly sensitive photoreceivers that combine photodiodes with specially designed low-noise transimpedance amplifiers. Depending on the application, these systems can deliver sensitivity down to the femtowatt range or bandwidths up to 400 MHz, covering everything from ultra-low-light measurements to fast optical detection.
For applications where common-mode noise is a challenge, FEMTO’s balanced photoreceivers measure the difference between two optical signals, helping to suppress unwanted noise and extract very small signals from the measurement path. This combination of very low noise, high gain, wide bandwidth and specialist photodetection makes FEMTO particularly valuable in demanding photonics and scientific research applications.
We look for technology partners with genuine specialist expertise and products that solve difficult engineering and measurement challenges. FEMTO is a strong example of this approach. The ability to detect a signal is often limited not by the detector itself, but by the noise introduced elsewhere in the measurement chain. FEMTO’s expertise in low-noise amplification allows us to offer customers highly sensitive solutions for applications where conventional amplification simply isn’t enough.
Our partnership brings together FEMTO’s specialist amplifier and photoreceiver technology with our application knowledge, photonics expertise and technical support. This means we can help customers go beyond simply selecting a product. We can work with them to understand the measurement challenge, identify the appropriate detector and amplifier technology, and consider how it should be integrated into the wider optical or electronic system.
Whether the requirement is for femtoampere current measurement, ultra-low-light detection, high-speed photodetection or low-noise signal conditioning, FEMTO provides the specialist technology — while we provide the expertise to help put it to work.
