PM651 – 650W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The PM651 is a single-output AC-DC power supply series designed for medical equipment requiring continuous output power of up to 650W. Its BF class insulation and 4000 VAC input-to-output withstand rating support integration into equipment with demanding insulation requirements. The series accepts a 90–264 VAC input and provides active power factor correction for operation across international mains supplies. Output variants cover nominal voltages from 12V to 58V, allowing engineers to select a model that matches the system load. The U-bracket version delivers its rated output with 30 CFM forced-air cooling, while an enclosed version with a cover and fan assembly is also available. Remote sensing, power-fail detection, output inhibit and a 5V standby supply support integration with system-level monitoring and control functions. In addition to medical equipment, the applicable safety approvals allow the series to be considered for information technology, telecommunications and audio-visual equipment.

PM651 - 650W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The PM651 series is built for medical and other professional systems that need high continuous power from a compact AC-DC platform. It combines 600–650W output capability, BF class insulation, active PFC and broad 90–264 VAC input operation to support global equipment designs.

Available nominal outputs span 12V to 58V, and designers can choose either an open-frame U-bracket version that uses system airflow or an enclosed configuration with integrated fan assembly. Additional functions including remote sense, power-fail detection, output inhibit, 5V standby and 12V fan supply help simplify system integration and monitoring.

FAQs

for PM651 – 650W Open Frame Medical Power Supply

The series provides nominal single-output options of 12V, 15V, 18V, 24V, 28V, 30V, 32V, 34V, 36V, 48V, 57V and 58V. Maximum output current depends on the selected voltage model.

A U-bracket model requires 30 CFM of forced airflow to deliver its specified 600W or 650W continuous output. The enclosed C-suffix configuration incorporates a cover and fan assembly.

The B suffix identifies the open-frame U-bracket configuration. Replacing B with C identifies an enclosed version equipped with a cover and fan assembly, such as PM651-14C.

The series provides BF class insulation and a 4000 VAC input-to-output withstand rating specified as 2 MOPP. Compliance and suitability must also be assessed within the complete medical equipment design.

Yes, the models can operate at no load without damage. During no-load operation, burst-mode control may cause the output voltage to fluctuate beyond 5%.

Peak current may be used at a maximum duty cycle of 10% for less than 15 seconds. The average power must not exceed the continuous maximum output rating of the selected model.

The series includes overvoltage, short-circuit and overtemperature protection. Short-circuit protection recovers automatically, while overvoltage and overtemperature protection latch and require the AC input to be recycled.

Remote sensing can compensate for up to 0.5V of voltage loss between the power supply and the load. Sense wiring and output cabling should be routed in accordance with the equipment’s electrical and EMC design requirements.

Full rated operation is specified up to +50°C under the applicable cooling conditions. Output capacity must then be reduced linearly to 50% at +70°C.

The PM651 provides power-fail detection, output inhibit and a 5V standby output. The PFD signal is high during normal operation and changes low after input power is lost, while a TTL high inhibit signal disables the main output.
