These devices utilise high-quality detectors to extend the measurement ranges into the near and mid-infrared spectrum. By selecting the detector gain, sensitivity or measurement dynamics can be optimised according to the requirements of the experiment.
The spectrometers cover a range in the NIR from 0.9 to 2.5 µm and in the MIR from 1.5 to 5 µm, and are used in the measurement of optical properties of solid, liquid, and gaseous samples. They are suitable for analysing chemical components, moisture detection, as well as specialised applications such as characterising NIR lasers.
Models like the SM241, SM301, SM301EX, and SM304-512 offer different detector types and spectral ranges, making them suitable for a variety of applications. The spectral resolution of these models ranges from <2 nm to 30 nm, depending on the chosen slit width and the specific model.

FAQs
for Compact NIR/MIR Spectrometers
The SM241 is ideal for applications in the near-infrared range (NIR) from 0.9 to 1.65 µm, as well as the analysis of organic compounds, water determination in solvents, and near-infrared spectroscopy where high spectral resolution (<2 nm) is required.
Cooling the PbS detector in the SM301 improves detector sensitivity and reduces noise, which is crucial for precise measurements in the range of 1 to 3 µm. This is particularly useful for measurements of very low intensities / weak signals.
The cooled PbSe spectrometer, SM301EX, is specifically designed for the mid-infrared range (MIR) from 1.5 to 5 µm. Its cooling enables use in analysing high-temperature dependent processes, such as those occurring in the chemical and petrochemical industries, by minimising thermally induced noise.
The cooled InGaAs detector in the SM304-512 offers excellent sensitivity in the extended near-infrared range (NIR) from 0.9 to 2.5 µm. This makes it particularly suitable for photovoltaic research, characterisation of semiconductor materials, and near-infrared reflection spectroscopy where high spectral resolution (3 – 9 nm) and low noise are crucial.
