Auto-start low frequency laminated transformers

Auto-start transformer construction is considerably lighter and smaller than similar isolating transformers. Typical applications are speed control of ventilation fans, the soft start of larger three-phase motors, and easy transforming of voltage up and down.

Autotransformers are not able to eliminate earth faults, all earth fault problems will be propagated through the transformer, resulting in considerable risk to safety.
