Lightera (formerly OFS) capabilities in being a vertically integrated manufacturer go from drawing fibers from a glass preform through to probe assembly. Lightera (formerly OFS) is both ISO 13485 certified following FDA Good Manufacturing Practices.
Lightera (formerly OFS) tests fibres to USP Class VI standards and ISO 10993 for biocompatibility and traceability and has their own low-bioburden room.
Lightera (formerly OFS) delivers comprehensive engineering support for customised solutions with varied constructions of cables and connectors applying both standard and customised physical and optical testing procedures.
Lightera (formerly OFS) supply a custom LineaSens® twisted multi-core fibre with continuous Fibre Bragg Gratings (FBG) for demanding shape sensing applications.

A high level overview of what this range offers
- HCXtreme® optical fibres deliver high power until tight bend avoiding injuries and damage to endoscopes
- HCS® low OH and high OH 0.37 NA multimode fibers from 125 to 1500 µm for power delivery medical applications
- UltraSil® fibers for near IR, spectroscopy, laser power delivery and custom assemblies using a 272 µm core size with blue buffer
- Single-use disposables and multi-use serializable autoclave or (Ethylene Trioxide) ETO sterilisation proof with medical packaging as required
- Medical applications include Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), Laser Lithotripsy for kidney stones, Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), repair of detached retina, laser tattoo removal, varicose vein treatment, endoscopy, and MRI signal links
- Customisable fibre tip assemblies, simple flat cleave to complex shape, and terminations with a variety of connectors available for sub-assemblies and final assemblies
- Solutions for Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in applications such as oncology, gastroenterology, and cardiology through use of miniature fibre optic in vivo probes
