The RUTM20 is an ultra-compact 5G router engineered for challenging IoT and industrial deployments where space and cost are critical. Despite its small size, it provides robust 5G cellular connectivity worldwide, with automatic fallback to 4G LTE and 3G networks for maximum uptime. Dual SIM slots and an integrated eSIM allow seamless carrier failover and remote SIM provisioning, so organisations can switch networks without on-site visits. This router is easy to install in tight spaces – from retail POS terminals and CCTV enclosures to vehicle fleet systems – thanks to its active PoE support that carries power and data over a single Ethernet cable. Built with an industrial-grade aluminium housing, the RUTM20 operates reliably from –40 °C to +75 °C, making it suitable for harsh environments. It runs on a secure, Linux-based RutOS platform with advanced networking features, VPN support, and remote management capabilities for large-scale deployments.

Range features
A high level overview of what this range offers
- Global 5G connectivity – Leverages a global 5G modem (Sub-6 GHz, SA/NSA) to maximise coverage across regions, with fallback to LTE Cat 19/18 and 3G for continuous connectivity.
- Dual SIM & eSIM failover – Includes two SIM slots plus an embedded eSIM (up to 7 profiles) to ensure uninterrupted service. The router automatically switches between SIMs based on signal strength, data limits or network status, minimising downtime and avoiding costly site visits.
- Active PoE power in/out – Supports 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet both as a powered device and as power source. This means the RUTM20 can be powered via an Ethernet cable or provide PoE output to another device (like a camera), simplifying installation and reducing extra power cabling.
- Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 – Provides fast wireless networking (802.11ac Wave 2) on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It supports data rates up to 867 Mbps and connects up to 150 simultaneous Wi-Fi clients, enabling local connectivity for sensors, laptops, or CCTV feeds with seamless roaming and mesh support.
- Compact, rugged design – Ultra-small form factor (about 100 × 30 × 94 mm) fits into tight cabinets and mobile installations. The durable metal enclosure and wide operating temperature range (−40 °C to +75 °C) ensure stable operation in industrial environments, vehicles, and remote sites.
- Advanced networking features – Runs on an OpenWrt-based OS (RutOS) packed with enterprise features: secure firewall, multiple VPN services (e.g. OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard), VLAN networking, and support for industrial protocols like Modbus TCP, MQTT, BACnet/IP and more. This allows easy integration into complex IoT systems and secure remote management of networks.

FAQs
for RUTM20 Compact 5G Router
The RUTM20 can reach up to approximately 3.4 Gbps download and 900 Mbps upload on 5G (Sub-6 GHz). When using 4G/LTE, it supports Cat 19 LTE with peak downloads around 1.6 Gbps (and uploads ~200 Mbps), and it falls back to 3G HSPA+ speeds of up to 42 Mbps if necessary. These high data rates make it suitable for bandwidth-intensive tasks like video streaming or rapid data offloading, while ensuring connectivity even in areas where only 4G or 3G is available.
The router is equipped with two physical SIM slots and an embedded eSIM. You can load multiple carrier profiles onto the eSIM (up to 7). The RUTM20 monitors the connection quality and will automatically switch between SIMs if the active network has issues (for example, weak signal, data cap reached, roaming restrictions, or network outage). This intelligent failover means the device stays online by swapping to an alternate mobile operator or profile without requiring a site visit. It’s especially useful for critical IoT systems that demand near 100% uptime across different regions or network conditions.
Yes. The RUTM20 supports Active PoE both as a Powered Device (PD) and Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE). In practice, this means you can power the RUTM20 itself through an Ethernet cable from a PoE switch (or injector), and the RUTM20’s LAN port can pass through power to run another device (like an IP camera or sensor) on the same cable. It adheres to the 802.3af/at standards (PoE/PoE+), so it can provide up to ~25 W to an attached device. This one-cable setup simplifies installations and is ideal for remote setups (e.g. powering a surveillance camera directly from the router).
The router has an integrated dual-band Wi-Fi 5 access point that operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously. It can handle up to 150 Wi-Fi client devices connected wirelessly, which is plenty for deployment in something like a large vehicle, kiosk, or small office full of IoT sensors. On the wired side, the RUTM20 provides one Gigabit Ethernet LAN port (and one Gigabit WAN port). The LAN can be segmented with VLANs for network security or traffic management. In short, it can act as a combined 5G modem, Wi-Fi hotspot, and LAN switch for edge devices, all in one box.
The RUTM20 is designed for industrial conditions in terms of temperature and vibration, featuring a rugged metal enclosure and reliable components. It functions in extreme temperatures from –40 °C up to 75 °C without issues, making it suitable for factories, unheated cabinets, or vehicle installations. Its enclosure is rated IP30 (protection against small objects, but not waterproof), so if you need to use it outdoors or in dusty/wet environments, you should mount it inside a proper weather-proof enclosure. The device is also compliant with industrial certifications and standards (CE, FCC, etc.), ensuring it can be safely deployed in professional environments.
You have several remote management options. The RUTM20 runs Teltonika’s RutOS, which supports a WebUI and CLI for configuration. For mass deployments, it’s compatible with a cloud-based Remote Management System (RMS) – this allows you to monitor device status, push firmware updates, and adjust settings on many units from a central dashboard. In addition, the router supports standard protocols like SNMP for integration with network monitoring software, and TR-069 for managing devices over the internet. These features let network administrators oversee RUTM20 routers in the field, perform diagnostics, and ensure everything is running smoothly without having to physically access the units.
The RUTM20’s operating system includes a full suite of networking features typically found in enterprise-grade routers. It supports advanced VPN protocols (like OpenVPN, IPsec, PPTP/L2TP, and even the modern WireGuard) to establish secure tunnels. A configurable firewall with firewall rules/NAT is built in, enabling you to restrict traffic or create port forwards as needed. The router also supports routing protocols (such as static routes, OSPF, BGP, etc.) for integration into complex networks. On the IoT side, it speaks industrial protocols: for example, it can function as a Modbus TCP master or slave, and supports MQTT for sending data to IoT cloud platforms. Overall, the RUTM20 gives engineers a lot of flexibility to tailor network behavior and security to their application requirements.
The RUTM20 is incredibly versatile due to its compact size and powerful capabilities. It’s a great fit for smart retail and POS systems – for instance, providing 5G backup connectivity for payment terminals in a small kiosk. It’s also used in video surveillance setups, where it can provide wireless internet to security cameras and even supply them power via PoE. In transportation (buses, trucks, trains), the RUTM20 serves as an onboard gateway, offering Wi-Fi to passengers or connecting onboard devices while handling the vibration and temperature swings. Utilities and smart city projects can deploy it in tight roadside cabinets or meter boxes to link sensors over 5G. Essentially, any application that needs reliable broadband connectivity in a confined space – from industrial automation panels to self-service vending machines – can benefit from the RUTM20 router.
