Carbon Coated Optical Fibres

A carbon coating only a few angstroms in thickness can extend the lifetime of a fibre significantly especially where fibres are exposed to hydrogen diffusion and/or high stress and/or are installed in a tight coil.

The range of carbon coated optical fibres from Lightera (formerly OFS) includes many variants for both single mode and multi-mode fibre and deployment into harsh environment applications.

  • Continuous lengths of carbon-coated fibre up to 12 km available
  • Ideal for systems using Raman backscatter (DTS) sensing method
  • Options include additional coatings, buffer colour/diameter/materials, cabling, connectorisation, metallisation and proof test
  • Geo50™ SA for mid-temperature range up to 160°C, protection against moisture and hydrogen ingression, resistance to water and chemicals
  • Geo50™ for high temperature range up to 300°C, short-term temperature excursions up to 400°C
  • Carbon coatings offer protection against moisture and hydrogen ingression, and resistance to water and chemicals
