FAQs
for SLB1000 1000W Enclosed AC-DC Power Supply Series
The SLB1000 power supplies accept a universal AC input from 90 V to 264 V at 47–63 Hz. This covers the full worldwide mains voltage range (100–240 V nominal), allowing the same unit to be used globally without manual switching. An active PFC (power factor correction) circuit achieves a typical power factor of 0.99, meeting EN61000-3-2 requirements for harmonics.
Each SLB1000 unit uses smart variable-speed fans that automatically adjust their speed based on the load and internal temperature. At lower loads or cooler conditions the fans slow down, significantly reducing noise output. This intelligent cooling design means the PSU only ramps up to higher fan speed (and noise level) when absolutely needed to maintain safe temperatures, resulting in very quiet operation under typical conditions.
Yes. The SLB1000 Series is safety approved to ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 with BF (Body Floating) rating, which means it meets the stringent isolation and leakage current requirements for medical equipment that may have patient contact. In practical terms, this allows the SLB1000 to be used in patient vicinity applications (such as medical imaging systems or lab analyzers) as a medical-grade power supply, provided all other system-level safety measures are in place.
The SLB1000 has a full set of self-protection features to guard against fault conditions. It includes over-voltage protection (OVP) to prevent the output from exceeding safe limits, over-current and short-circuit protection (OCP/SCP) that will limit or shut off the output if the load tries to draw too much current, and over-temperature protection (OTP) that will shut down the unit if it overheats. An overload or excessive power draw will also trigger protection. These features ensure the power supply and the connected equipment are safeguarded against damage during abnormal events.
Yes. In addition to its main output, each SLB1000 supply provides a 5 V DC standby output (rated 2 A) which can be used to power standby circuitry, logic controllers, or fans in the host system even when the main output is inhibited. The unit also features a DC OK signal (sometimes called Power Good) which is an isolated logic signal indicating that the main output is within regulation. There is also an inhibit or remote on/off control input that allows the user to shut down (disable) the main 1000 W output remotely. These signals facilitate easy integration of the SLB1000 into complex systems, enabling monitoring and control of the power supply’s status.
Yes, the SLB1000’s output is trimmable by ±5% of its nominal voltage. A built-in potentiometer or trim pin allows fine adjustment of the output—for example, the 24 V model can typically be adjusted from roughly 22.8 V up to 25.2 V. This feature is useful for compensating for voltage drops in long cable runs or tailoring the voltage to a specific load requirement. It ensures the connected equipment receives the precise voltage it needs.
The SLB1000 series is specified to operate from -20 °C to +70 °C ambient. However, to ensure reliability at the extremes, a linear derating of output power is required from +40 °C up to +70 °C. In practice, this means the PSU can deliver its full 1000 W up to 40 °C. Above 40 °C, the maximum available output power gradually decreases (down to about 500 W at 70 °C). This derating prevents overheating by reducing stress on the supply at high ambient temperatures. It’s important to consult the datasheet’s derating curve and provide adequate cooling if you need to operate near the upper temperature limit.
The SLB1000 series is designed to meet major international safety and EMC standards for both industrial and medical use. On the safety side, it carries UL/CSA 62368-1 certification for industrial/ITE equipment and is also approved to ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 (Edition 3.1) for medical electrical equipment (including the BF rating for patient proximity). It has a CE mark as well, indicating compliance with the Low Voltage Directive. For EMC, the SLB1000 meets the IEC 60601-1-2 4th Edition requirements for medical EMC, and it also satisfies heavy industrial immunity standards (EN61000 series tests for ESD, surge, EFT, etc.). Additionally, its emissions are classed as Class B for conducted EMI (suitable for residential environments) and Class A for radiated EMI, reflecting a very low noise design. This comprehensive compliance makes it simpler to integrate the SLB1000 into end products and pass regulatory approvals.
