Frequently asked questions about pyrometers from Advanced Energy (formerly Lumasense)

A pyrometer is a non-contact temperature measuring device that measures infrared radiation from an object to determine its temperature. It is often used in industrial applications where it is difficult or impossible to work with traditional contact thermometers.

Advanced Energy, formerly LumaSense, offers a variety of pyrometers, including handheld pyrometers, pyrometers with fiber optics, through-the-lens sighting or laser pilot light, for different temperature ranges and applications.

Pyrometers can be purchased at Acal BFi. Acal BFi offers a wide selection of pyrometers from Advanced Energy and Impac, which are designed for various demanding applications. These infrared thermometer sensors are specifically developed for precise temperature measurements in petrochemical, metal processing, and other industries. Acal BFi provides reliable, robust, and highly accurate pyrometers that enable real-time measurements and feature cutting-edge technology.

  • Non-contact measurement: Enables temperature measurements in hard-to-reach or extremely hot areas
  • High precision and reliability
  • Versatile application possibilities: Suitable for many industrial applications such as metal processing, glass manufacturing, and semiconductor production
  • Robust design: Ideal for use in harsh industrial environments

Depending on the model, the pyrometers can measure temperatures from -40°C to over 3000°C. Each model is designed for specific temperature ranges.

Pyrometers measure the infrared radiation emitted by an object. This radiation is directly related to the temperature of the object. The device converts the radiation into an electrical value, which is then converted into a temperature.

Pyrometers are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including

  • Metalworking: monitoring melting and casting processes
  • Glass production: temperature control during melting and molding
  • Semiconductor production: monitoring temperature processes in wafer production
  • Chemical industry: monitoring reactions at high temperatures

  • Single-channel pyrometers measure the temperature of an object using a fixed wavelength in the infrared range
  • Dual-channel pyrometers use two wavelengths and can provide more accurate measurements, especially in difficult conditions such as under dust or smoke

Calibration is done by comparing the temperature measured by the pyrometer with the actual temperature of a blackbody radiator whose temperature is precisely known.

Advanced Energy Pyrometers can be integrated into existing process control systems via various interfaces such as RS232, RS485, Ethernet and analog outputs.

In general, pyrometers require little maintenance. However, it is recommended that the viewing window is cleaned regularly to ensure optimum measurement performance. In addition, the device should be calibrated at regular intervals to ensure accuracy.

Some Advanced Energy models are specifically designed for use in ATEX-certified hazardous areas. However, it is important to check the relevant model and application specifications.
