Gas lasers for precise applications
Gas lasers, while considered older technology, remain the preferred choice for several applications due to their unique properties.
He-Ne lasers, although largely replaced by diode lasers, are still favored in certain scientific uses for their exceptionally high coherence length, which can range from 20 cm to 100 m depending on the cavity design.
CO2 lasers, often replaced by fibre lasers in industrial material processing, are still ideal for specific applications. Their unique wavelength of typically 10.6 µm, compared to around 1.06 µm for high-power continuous fibre lasers, makes them suitable for machining certain materials.
