Magnetic cores made of cobalt-based alloys are characterised by excellent soft magnetic properties such as very low coercivity and thus low losses. A wide variety of alloys covers the permeability range from 1000 to 200.000; for some materials, cores with a rectangular Z-loop can also be manufactured. As a rule, they are practically non-magnetostrictive.
High permeable materials such as kOr 057 are primarily used as signal transformers and in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. With a Z-loop they are perfectly suited for low-loss switching applications such as transducer cores (MagAmps).
