Polarisation maintaining optical fibres are optimised in performance at a specific wavelength for a given application.
Typical applications for 80 µm core fibres include pigtails for small amplifiers and interconnects in pluggable transceivers. The Gyrosil® range of fibres with an 80 µm core are specifically designed for Fibre Optic Gyroscopes (FOGs).
Other applications, depending on wavelength requirements are polarisation beam splitters, PMD compensators, pump laser pigtails, pump combiners, pump multiplexors, and pump/signal WDM couplers.
