Image Splitter

Cairn Research’s Image Splitters allow simultaneous imaging of multiple wavelength, polarization, or Z-depth channels for use with one or more camera sensors.

Traditionally, multi-channel imaging is performed with an electronic filter changer or additional cameras and beam splitters, neither of which is ideal for all applications. The switching speed of an electronic filter changer limits temporal resolution, while additional cameras incur extra costs and complexity. The Image Splitter uses a unique rotatable mirror mount that allows adjustable spatial separation to ensure excellent image registration and features a fully adjustable rectangular aperture to enable imaging modes with cropped sensors and reduced scatter.

The latest version uses our own lens design to support the larger sensors of scientific CMOS and some EMCCD cameras. The instruments have a correspondingly larger aperture and improved off-axis correction to achieve enhanced performance with all sensors.

  • Image Splitters for a single camera: In addition to the two-way image splitters OptoSplit and OptoSplit Bypass and their three-way cousin TripleSplit (OptoSplit III), we now finally have our four-way splitter MultiSplit V2. Some of these are available with a bypass.

  • Image Splitters for multiple cameras: Our portfolio includes the TwinCam for two cameras and the MultiCam for up to four cameras. With specially designed optics, it offers superior image quality on large sCMOS camera sensors. The device accommodates up to three of our standard filter cubes, which can split light based on wavelength, polarization state, or depth of field.
