Amiccom

Amiccom is one of the first vendors of radio ICs for non-specific short-range applications in the 5GHz frequency band. The ICs can be interfaced by SPI from a customer’s MCU of choice. The current portfolio is split into similar devices, which are either dedicated for the lower 5.2GHz band or for the upper frequencies around 5.8GHz.

The useful data rates range from around 500kbps up to 4Mbps. Low power consumption/good efficiency is a key feature of all parts. The so-called “Wake-On-Radio” (WOR) feature and integrated packet handling features reduce the workload for the application MCU, which further helps to save power and extend battery run-times of the system.

Range features

A high level overview of what this range offers

  • TRX devices for the 5.2GHz and 5.8GHz frequency range available
  • Supported modulation types: (G)FSK)
  • Over-the-air data rate: up to 4Mbps
  • TX output power: typical up to +2dBm
  • RX sensitivity: e.g. down to -89dBm @data rate 2Mbps; IF BW = 2.5MHz (for illustration purposes only, as this parameter is highly modulation/receiver setup dependent
  • High resolution, fast settling fractional synthesizer à perfectly suited for frequency hopping systems
  • TX/RX payload data FIFO
  • Integrated packet handler with CRC, FEC and data whitening options
  • “Wake on Radio” (WOR): the radio can listen for incoming packets or transmit predefined payloads autonomously, without steady interaction from the MCU, at given, user-defined intervals
