AC Photonics fibre optic plug-in type attenuators have a fixed attenuation level that is set very precisely during manufacture and through durable design, maintains tolerance level during lifetime. Attenuation levels of 1 to 20 dB can be selected in FC, SC, and LC connector types. Both UPC and APC polishing types are available.
The VOAs (Variable 0ptical Attenuators) are available as either manually adjustable or MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) type. The manual type can be configured with fibre orientation one-side only or two sides for more flexibility in design. Additionally, the manual version can be customised offering an 80 dB version in certain configurations.
AC Photonics VOAs are designed to meet Telcordia Standards.

- Typical applications for plug-in type fixed attenuators include CATV systems and high-power networks
- Low back reflection for plug-in type, ≤ -50 dB for UPC and ≤ - 60 dB for APC, and low wavelength dependency, 0.5 dB typical at 10 dB attenuation over 1480 to 1620 nm wavelength range
- Manual VOAs with very low PDL (Polarisation Dependent Loss) and low TDL (Temperature Dependent Loss)
- Operating wavelengths for VOAs include 1310 nm, 1550 nm, 830 nm, 780 nm, and custom
- MEMS VOA available in both opaque and transparent off-state versions
- Several fibre types available for VOAs to include SMF-28 Ultra, Corning ZBL, HI1060 Flex, PM850, amongst others
- VOA pigtail styles include bare fibre, 900 µm loose tube, 3 mm jacket, 2mm jacket, 1.6 mm jacket
- MEMS VOAs available in either 7 V or 20 V operating voltage versions
