Shibaura NTC thermistors feature gold contacts in addition to waterproof glass coatings. This results in almost no drift in the resistance over time, whilst allowing the thermistors to be used in permanent operating temperatures ranging from -60°C to +1000°C, and are suitable for applications that are prone to frequent thermal cycles and high levels of humidity.

Their unique design and a fully automated, zero defect manufacturing process means Shibaura thermistors work consistently - without failure or deterioration - in harsh conditions and extreme temperatures.

In addition, their sensors are highly customisable, offering a flexible choice of mouldings, assemblies, cable lengths and colours plus a variety of housings.

Thermistor elements

A thermistor element is the basic element, the heart of a sensor, for outputting resistance-temperature characteristics. It is fabricated in the form of a sensor assembly or mounted onto the surface of a printed circuit board depending on the specified application.

All of Shibaura's thermistor elements are glass-encapsulated which means they have superior resistance to heat and climatic conditions and have a long lifespan compared to resin-coated thermistors.

They also use thermistor chips with a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) via gold electrodes; which means thermistor resistance lowers as the temperature rises, giving superior thermal response and increased stability of characteristics.

Applicable element models can be selected considering the operating temperature, resistance-temperature characteristics, response time, dimensions, mechanical strength, mount type and other factors.

Thermistor sensors

Thermistor sensors are assembled using one or more of the thermistor elements, according to their specific purpose and operating environment (temperature range, measuring object, mounting position, mechanical strength, etc.)

Shibaura is a highly trusted supplier, having been manufacturing NTC thermistor sensors for over 60 years. They have the capabilities to manufacture miniature thermistors with consistent characteristics using unrivalled glass encapsulation technology and are fully customisable in order to meet the demands of complex designs.
