The sources of mechanical resonance and the solutions available to protect your component’s performance

When creating a component with a soft magnetic core you will have experienced “noise” caused by magnetic flux. However, the “noise” caused by magnetic flux can be exponentially increased due to mechanical resonance.

This can increase power losses, change the cores' impedance properties, and can drastically affect the performance of the end component.

In this paper, we explore the sources of mechanical resonances and some of the methods which can be used to reduce the resulting “noise”.
