Visit Acal BFi at PCIM Europe 2018, Hall 7, Stand 43PCIM Europe, one of the most important meeting points for the power and magnetics industry, is returning to Nuremburg, Germany on 5-7 June 2018. Dr Wulf Guenther, Head of Custom Services for Magnetic Components (CSfMC) at Acal BFi, will be discussing how we help customers solve complex design challenges and overcome EMI problems in challenging situations. In this session, we will look at the unique environment of ships and vessels as part of PCIM’s Traction, ship and aircraft poster session.

With more than 20 years’ experience developing and producing magnetic cores and components, Dr Guenther has led the CSfMC team, a competence centre for customised inductive components, at Acal BFi since 2015.

This session will share how we solved the challenges faced during system integration for electrical propulsion. It will explore in a case study how complex design challenges can be solved by nanocrystalline cores for common mode suppression, such as using the material around cabling between inverters and electric motors.

 

Increasing powder core permeability ranges by combining different materials

As part of PCIM’s poster sessions, Paul Winkler will discuss how tailored powder cores can provide specific permeability characteristics. Learn how you can enlarge the set of available permeabilities of powder cores when you need exactly tuned inductance.

Paul Winkler is a design engineer for inductors at Acal BFi. He leads research and development projects to improve the efficiency and stability of core and component designs. He helps customers find the right solution for their unique demands, based on the wide range of inductor core materials offered at Acal BFi.

At this session you will learn what happens when you combine U-cores of different permeability. We will explore the new permeability levels produced by combination and the calculation of a mixed-core choke, as well as the saturation behaviour of a mixed core, including tolerance effects.
