MCT detectors offer the highest sensitivity of all IR detectors in the range of 2 - 25 microns. These detectors can be offered either TE, liquid nitrogen, or cooled with a Stirling motor.

LN2 cooled MCT detectors

In addition to TE cooled MCT (HgCdTe) detectors, we also offer nitrogen-cooled MCT detectors. The standard detectors are optimised for:

  • 2μm to 5μm
  • 2μm to 13μm

FTIR series:

  • 2μm to 16μm
  • 2μm to 24μm

The FTIR series of HgCdTe detectors are designed to achieve optimum performance at Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometers. The detectors offer the highest sensitivities with cut-offs from 750 to 400 cm-1. Depending on the application, the wavelength range and the peak wavelength can also be customised by varying the alloy composition. Standard Dewars are 8h, 12h, and 24h Dewars.

Stirling cooled MCT detectors

InfraRed Associates offer an additional cooling option for infrared detectors.  Stirling circuit-cooled detectors are offered in three different design packages that enable operation up to 75K if required.  This option eliminates the need for liquid nitrogen cooling and is ideal for remote or unattended operations.

All detectors that we can offer nitrogen-cooled can also be offered with Stirling coolers and reach the same detectivity as nitrogen-cooled detectors but can be used over a year in 24/7 operation.
