Georgina KitchenerInternal Sales, Team Leader

I started at Acal BFi, then Acal Radiatron, in 2005 as a temporary Sales Office Administrator where I carried out general office duties, such as organising the post daily, sending samples to customers, and housekeeping the CRM database.

This quickly became a permanent position and I took on further responsibilities, including telemarketing. This progressed into a marketing role as working as part of a small telemarketing team, whose role was to promote our products and services, and generate sales leads. I was then promoted to head up the marketing team, liaising with our PR company to ensure accurate content and images were used for industry press releases. I also helped launch and train users on our newly implemented CRM system When the office relocated to Wokingham, I moved into a sales role and got involved in quoting, processing and placing customer orders with our suppliers, as well as customer service support. Since then I have remained in sales and have learnt many new skills in customer service, cross-selling and account management. I now manage a small team of people who look after our top 50 customers.

I joined Acal BFi after being recommended by a friend and have enjoyed my career here. I have been allowed to enhance my existing skills and learnt many new ones. At Acal BFi, every encouragement is given to you t o progress within the company and my line manager has been pivotal to my career progression. Acal BFi promotes personal development amongst its employees and I know that I can and will go further here.

l really enjoy the interaction I have with my customers and relish the relationships I have built, with colleagues. as well. Acal BFi is a great place to work, with a great bunch of people to work with.

Anna Goldsmith Technical operations and development manager, Marketing

I joined Acal BFi in November 2012. My previous role was as a website manager for a financial education company, and our website was in English and Welsh, so I relished the opportunity when I applied for the job to help launch and content manage a European website in five languages.

My role as a Content specialist involved leaning a new content management system, editing content on the website, updating and adding images, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation – to help get us higher up in search engine pages), and organising for the content to be translated and uploaded into four foreign languages sites.

As part of the central marketing team, I work directly with our European contact on a daily basis. In July 2013 I went to our office in Italy with my manager. This was an important visit for both us and the Italian team, firstly to meet our colleagues face to face and crucially to demonstrate to how to make the most of our new integrated website It was at this time that I was asked if I would like to become the Technical operations and development manager, which I accepted.

I am now responsible for the overall day-to-day running of the websites, making sure that they are working efficiently, keeping the content up to date, and helping to enhance the functionality of the site going forwards. It involves a lot of problem solving as well as liaising with internal and external people concurrently.

In my short time here I feel I have achieved and learnt an incredible amount. Every day is different, which keeps me on my toes. I am very grateful to Acal BFi for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to many enjoyable years with the company.

Russell LobbField Sales Engineer

I joined the Locator division of Acal BFi in October 2015 as a Field Sales Engineer, having previously worked for a number of companies within the industry on both the distribution and manufacturing side.

Coming directly from a small manufacturer, the opportunity to work for a large, multinational franchised distributor was very appealing, if not a little daunting. However, it soon became apparent that the way in which Acal BFi is structured, through various smaller business units, means you have the benefits and backing of a big organisation but still work closely on a day-to-day basis within a close-knit team. This means you can make a real difference within your team, and your ideas and opinions can be listened to and acted upon.

Acal BFi have been very good in investing in their employee’s career development – I have recently undertaken the ‘sales academy’ which I would consider as the most informative and beneficial sales training I have been involved in. Employees are encouraged to aspire to career progression and there are various opportunities to develop your skill-set and your career within Acal BFi at whatever level you join the company.

From a sales perspective the opportunities are limitless. Although I specialise in one area, I am encouraged and supported to cross-sell the group's many product areas and franchises, with the support of other sales people as required.

I’m looking forward to what the future holds for both me and Acal BFi in the coming months and years.

Emily LucasArea Sales Manager, Emech

I joined the company in July 2008 after finishing my A-levels. It was my first full-time job and I joined as an Office Junior in Customer Services. Initially the role involved loading orders onto the system and filing. Gradually I took on more responsibilities such as reporting and credit card processing. In all, I spent around four months in Customer Services before moving into Internal Sales as an Internal Sales Coordinator.

This role enabled me to gain experience in providing quotes to customers and building relationships with them. Having gained some experience, I was given my own customer list and began dealing with these customers’ requirements on a cradle-to-grave basis. I was responsible for providing quotes, processing the customer’s order, arranging for the goods to be picked and shipped, and then dealing with any subsequent issues. I also went on customer visits with the Sales Reps and Product Managers. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting my customers face to face and building even stronger relationships with them. It was this experience which encouraged me to apply for the role of Area Sales Manager and, having been successful in the interview process, I am looking forward to starting my life ‘on the road’.

When I left school, I took the decision not to go to university but to find a company that would invest in and support me, and where I could develop my career. I’m grateful for the experience and opportunities provided to so far and I am looking forward to new challenges in the future.

Tosin OladokunInternal Sales Engineer

I joined Acal BFi at the beginning of 2016 as lead generation specialist and was promoted to Internal Sales Engineer 10 months later. In that time, the company supported me in my development with a dedicated mentor.

As an Internal Sales Engineer, I provide technical consultation to customers, as well as technical design when required. I need to have a good understanding of the technology specifically in the area of HMI, Thermal and Passive components. However it is also useful for some projects to have a good overall understand of the full Acal BFi portfolio. This is where my degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering, which I obtained from the University of Bolton, helps me to quickly grasp various technologies.

To be successful in my current role, I extensively use my listening skills to understand our customers’ requirements. I also use negotiation and sales skills, which have improved significantly over the past year through my job, listening to my experienced colleagues, and by attending the Sales Academy Acal BFi runs.

My role is very diverse and I enjoy the variety of speaking to engineers, as well as buyers. Due to the technology I cover I also get the chance to be exposed to a wide range of suppliers and industries, such as military, aerospace, defence, networking, communication, scientific, medical, health care, and automotive.

My ambition for the future is to carry on learning, growing and developing my career at Acal BFi.

Christine GazengelFinance and Operations Manager, Spain

I joined the company as Financial Controller in June 1999. Prior to this I worked for an accounting and auditing firm and I had decided that I would like to move into a Controller role within a growing business. When I joined it was quite a small business, with around 15 employees who were mainly involved in sales. There was no finance or operations team, and my role was to create and develop a finance team and set up suitable procedures. I enjoyed establishing and building the team.

The business grew quite quickly and I increased the team and amended our procedures to maintain the efficiency of the enlarged business. I also set up an operations team and a local warehouse.

In 2005 we had a change of management and this led to my role changing quite significantly. I was given the opportunity to become involved in many different aspects of running the business. I now work with our General Manager as a trusted business partner. I am involved in many tasks outside of the normal role of a Financial Manager, so, for example, I get involved in negotiations with suppliers and customers.

I very much enjoy the broadness and variety of my current role. I find it interesting to learn new things and be involved in the running of the business, so I appreciate the opportunities that Acal BFi have given me to do this.
