Magnetics introduce evolutionary new core material Kool Mμ® MAX

Mag Inc introduce evolutionary new core material Kool Mμ® MAX Magnetics have introduced a brand new core material, Kool Mμ® MAX. Available from Acal BFi, Kool Mμ MAX, a supercharged version of the low core loss Kool Mµ material, retains all of the benefits of Kool Mµ but brings superior performance closer to that of Magnetics’ premium material, High Flux.

Available in 26μ, 40μ and 60μ permeabilities, the new core material is the first of the next generation of sendust cores to come from Magnetics. Kool Mμ MAX retains the FeSiAl alloy composition of Kool Mμ to deliver proven stability and reliability. The operating temperature range, from -55°C to 200°C, a Curie temperature of 500°C and saturation flux density of 1.0 Tesla all remain consistent to the material on which the new Kool Mμ MAX is based.

Compared to Kool Mμ, however, Kool Mμ MAX offers 50% better DC bias performance for enhanced power handling. Kool Mμ MAX also has lower losses than Kool Mμ and does not suffer from the temperature rise issues found in iron powder cores.

Kool Mµ MAX enables users to improve inductor efficiency to levels similar to that of High Flux material at a lower cost. Plus, by maintaining inductance using less turns, copper wire use can be minimised, resulting in reduced overall component costs.

Kool Mμ MAX is available from Acal BFi now in Toroids from 13.5 to 134mm in 26μ, 40μ and 60μ permeabilities.
